Spurrlow Tour - (1968 - 1969)
Page #6
Bull Creek High School in
Bull Creek, Michigan. After
9 months and almost 500
assemblies, this is finally the
last beat of the last show!
But where are the Spurrlow
girls??? Well, they were all
just fired during the final
"Animal Medley"! Looks like
the guys will have to finish
the show alone. (Leave it to
the girls to be the first to go
out in a "Blaze of Glory".)
That was it! Tour was over!
The band just sat, stunned
by what had just happened
to the girls in the group. But
Phil made sure he would get
in the "last word" by kicking
over his music stand, sending
sheet music all over the gym
floor.
With a little help from the
band members, Phil's
"Chrysler Blue" was once
again "modified" for one
final photo.
Now came the long and
emotional final caravan
ride back to Detroit. Even
though we were driving
about 70 mph, it felt like
a funeral procession with
the truck in the lead, and
the cars following. It was
hard to imagine that this
would be the last time we
would all be together.
A quick stop for gas provided
one last opportunity for Phil and
Terry to do the "crab routine"
before completing our journey
back to Detroit.
Tour officially ended with
our goodbye's in the parking
lot of the Bethesda Baptist
Church. Here Tim and Marti
say farewell as we each left
for our respective homes and
returned to the life we left 9
months prior. No one would
be the same after the close
friendships we made and the
experiences we shared as
such a close-knit group.
Marva and Trish say goodbye.
With all the sights that were
seen and all the things that
were done, this tour will most
be remembered for the fun
times we had and friendships
that were made. But now, all
good things must come to an
end, even this tour.
